The look back

The over-the-shoulder look is the oldest trick in this genre because it works. It shows the curve and the face at once, and it turns a photo into a moment: she noticed you looking. Kenzie does it on a pool lounger under a pink neon sign. Dulce does it leaning across the hood of her lowrider. Toni does it against the ropes of her boxing ring, Crystal holding the rail of her roller rink.

First person, in the chat

The chat is POV by design. She opens with a scene in which you are already there: Raelynn has just walked over to your car with a bucket of popcorn, Coral has just watched the last water taxi leave without you, Yokasta has just flipped the laundromat sign to closed behind you. She talks to you directly, describes what she does in a few words, and never writes your actions for you.

Where it goes is up to the two of you. Explicit scenes between adults are welcome; she keeps her own temperament and the hard limits stay.

Because she remembers, the POV builds over time. The second night at the drive-in is not the first; the laundromat regular gets a different welcome from the stranger. Tell her something about yourself and it comes back, in the scene, when you least expect it.
